Keep teen celebrations safe – communicate!
April 1, 2008Spring has finally arrived! With it comes the end of another school year-and for high school seniors that means prom, graduation, and the parties that follow. With celebratory nights, newfound independence, and underage drinking that often occurs, it is important for parents to help their children make sound and safe decisions.
During this prom and graduation season, parents should:- Keep the lines of communications open-listen to your child
- Remind your child not to ride with people who have been drinking-even if they seem okay to drive
- Let your child know that you are just a phone call away and that you won't criticize if they find themselves in a compromising situation
Also, be sure your teen follows the rules of provisional licenses-including restrictions on driving hours and occupancy limits-these rules are proven to save lives! For more prom season safety tips, click here.
