Keep your teen on the radar
June 1, 2008Although we can shape our children, as they grow into young adults, some would argue that teens are more heavily influenced by their peers, surroundings and experiences than by the input of parents. Even so, parents can still gauge their teen's well being in many ways:
- Offer to drive their friends to the movies- "a fly on the wall" can learn a lot!
- Meet their friends-see the kinds of people with whom they associate
- Keep in regular contact with their teachers and guidance counselor
- Direct them toward extracurricular activities and events
- Arrange for them to spend time with supportive role models
- Be a good listener and think before passing judgment
Though teens may be reluctant to speak with you, oftentimes a trusted relative, neighbor or teacher can serve as a role model, a friend, and an outlet for their expression. If you or your teen needs a helping hand, contact NewBridge today at 888-746-9333 or click here.
