Beat the heat this summer
July 1, 2008Summer is here, temperatures are rising and it is time for people, especially senior citizens, to be extremely careful in the heat.
When the mercury starts to rise:
- Dress lightly - wear thin, loose, light-colored clothing
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water
- Take a cool shower or go for a swim
- Use a fan or air conditioner
- Limit physical activity
- Check in on frail or elderly neighbors and friends
Enjoying recreational activities in the summer is important but doing so safely is critical. And remember, when the temperatures reach record highs, it is best to stay inside a cool building!
