Do a School Checkup for Your Child

Now that the new school year is underway, it's a good time to make sure your child is on track both academically and emotionally. Open communication is key. Take time each day to talk with your child about the day's events.

• Ask your child what his/her favorite subject or teacher is and why.
• Discuss what was the best and worst thing that happened that day.
• Introduce yourself to teachers and let them know things about your child that might be helpful. Encourage them to inform you of changes in your child's behavior.
