Senior Services Spotlighted at NewBridge Open House
Pompton Plains, NJ - May 15, 2007 - For many senior citizens, simple tasks like fixing a door or replacing old glasses can prove a major undertaking. More complex issues such as legal issues or completing insurance paperwork can seem an impossible feat. But services to help seniors with these types of issues do exist in Morris and Passaic counties, and raising awareness about these services was the focus of NewBridge's Senior Services Open House, held today in Pompton Plains.
Professionals who work on behalf of seniors in Morris and Passaic counties learned more about NewBridge's wide range of senior services. They also got the chance to speak with the staff of NewBridge SAIL (Senior Assistance for Independent Living), a free program for people over the age of 60 that provides links to services to help them maintain their independence.
"Last year, NewBridge SAIL's knowledgeable staff linked 344 seniors to services that allowed them to maintain independence in their own homes," said Camille Faith, Coordinator of Geriatric Outreach, NewBridge. "We know there are still seniors throughout Passaic and Morris counties who could benefit tremendously from our services, so today we're raising awareness to those people who can alert seniors of our availability to them."
Some new services were also introduced at the open house, including caregiver respite for people who could not otherwise afford it, in-home health assessments from an advanced practice nurse who make sure medications are compatible and link seniors to whatever healthcare resources are needed, as well as a day program designed just for seniors.
"Several recent grants have allowed NewBridge to provide these new services," said Robert L. Parker, Executive Director, NewBridge. "Through the generosity of these donors, NewBridge is able to respond to previously unmet needs among our aging population and their caregivers."
Funders of NewBridge's senior services include Morris and Passaic County Divisions on Aging, Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc., Morris County Division of Community Development, NewBridge Fund, United Way of Morris County, and United Way of Passaic County.
