NewBridge Awarded $50,000 From TD Banknorth
Grant benefits NewBridge's affordable housing initiative in Morris and Passaic counties
Pompton Plains, NJ - November 8, 2007 - NewBridge Services, Inc., a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and education programs and services, has been awarded a $50,000 "Housing for Everyone" grant from TD Banknorth to develop affordable housing for persons with special needs.
"This major award from TD Banknorth has opened new doors for NewBridge to provide affordable housing to those who need it most," said Robert L. Parker, Executive Director, NewBridge. "We are grateful and proud that TD Banknorth, recognizing the value in this endeavor, has joined in our mission to create affordable housing opportunities in New Jersey."
NewBridge will use the $50,000 grant award to help create permanent, affordable lease-based housing for families in which there are adult parents who are recovering from mental illness and have dependent children.
In all, the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation and TD Banknorth Inc. donated $200,000 in grants to six organizations in New Jersey as part of the "Housing for Everyone" grant competition, a program developed by the bank in partnership with the Housing & Community Development Network of New Jersey to support affordable housing initiatives in communities where TD Banknorth does business.
"TD Banknorth is proud to support these New Jersey organizations and many others that work tirelessly to increase the availability of affordable housing in our communities," said Thomas J. Shara, president and chief lending officer, TD Banknorth's Mid-Atlantic Division.
"Not only do these awards help to address crucial housing needs for vulnerable populations but they also provide a great example of what true partnership between the private and nonprofit sectors can accomplish," said Paige Carlson-Heim, the Network's managing director.
Responding to the statewide effort to combat the state's housing crisis, NewBridge has taken an active role in providing affordable housing opportunities for those with disabilities, particularly those with special needs, as well as those with moderate and low incomes. NewBridge's community-based housing program includes a continuum of services from residential care to lease-based affordable housing opportunities, which provide the appropriate level of assistance and independence to 100 individuals. The TD Banknorth grant provides valuable funding for key components of the agency's new affordable housing initiative, in which NewBridge will create 100 new units of community-based affordable housing throughout Morris and Passaic counties by 2010.
