NewBridge Hosts Free Alcohol Prevention Program

North Jersey, N.J., September 2, 2008 - With a new school year upon us, NewBridge, a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and education services, is again offering its free Fatal Vision® goggles program to schools and organizations. Thousands of students have worn these goggles that simulate the sensation of being intoxicated, and experienced the visual impairment that comes with drinking alcohol.

"Many teens don't understand how alcohol affects the brain and impairs one's ability to drive, walk or even write. This program is a powerful tool for teens to learn the disabling effects of alcohol consumption," said Mary Vineis, Prevention Services Coordinator, NewBridge.

NewBridge also offers Fatal Vision kits free for loan to teachers, police officers, student assistance coordinators, school resource officers, nurses or other leaders of children's groups who wish to educate young people about the effects of drinking alcohol. The kits include goggles, class materials, videos and teaching guides.

Funding for this effort is provided through a federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to the State Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
