NewBridge Awarded MetLife Grant To Provide Affordable Housing
Corporation for Supportive Housing coordinates partnership, expedites new housing initiative
POMPTON PLAINS, NJ- MARCH 31, 2006 - NewBridge Services, Inc., a community provider of behavioral health and education programs and services, has been awarded a $15,000 MetLife Foundation Supportive Housing Venture Grant from The Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) to develop affordable housing in Pompton Plains, NJ.
The grant will enable NewBridge to hire a Project Development Officer to oversee future supportive housing development activities, and implement strategies to develop two permanent supportive housing projects totaling approximately 20 units.
"This initiative will help residents complete the path to independence and empower them to live self-sufficient, productive lives," said Robert L. Parker, Executive Director, NewBridge.
NewBridge prides itself on listening and responding to the needs of the community and has heard the call for more affordable housing in New Jersey. Responding to the statewide effort to combat the state's housing crisis, NewBridge is proud to play an active role in providing housing opportunities for everyone in the community.
NewBridge's community-based housing program includes a continuum of services from residential care to permanent housing opportunities, which provide the appropriate level of assistance and independence to 100 individuals. The MetLife grant provides valuable funding for key components of the agency's new affordable housing initiative, in which NewBridge will create 100 new units of community-based affordable housing throughout Morris and Passaic counties by 2010.
"Affordable housing linked with job training, child care, and other supportive services can help put the formerly homeless on the path to greater independence," said Sibyl Jacobson, President of MetLife Foundation. "We are pleased to partner with CSH in awarding this grant to NewBridge Services, Inc. to create supportive housing and hope for a brighter future."
The grant program is part of a larger CSH initiative funded by MetLife Foundation to increase the quality and quantity of supportive housing nationally.
"We are grateful for MetLife for their commitment to addressing homelessness through the creation of supportive housing," said Carla Javits, President and CEO of CSH. "Through this partnership with NewBridge, we look forward to deliver housing and services that add up to a cost-effective and compassionate solution."
