Pequannock Alliance Hosts Panel on Drugs and Alcohol
Police, school, NewBridge experts offer insight to local parents & community
Pompton Plains, NJ - Sept. 27, 2006 - Parents and community are invited to attend a free panel discussion on "Drugs, Alcohol and Our Community" on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Pequannock Township High School's cafeteria, starting at 7:30 p.m. Speakers from the Municipal Alliance Committee will discuss the latest trends, risk factors, and issues surrounding drug and alcohol use by minors, and follow up with a question and answer session.
Speakers include Maureen Montalbetti, Student Assistance Counselor and Susan DeBell, School Nurse, both of Pequannock Township High School; Dr. William Trusheim, Principal, Pequannock Valley Middle School; Detective Dave Wetmore, School Resource Officer; and Mary Vineis, Prevention Specialist at NewBridge, a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and education programs and services.
"Parents in attendance may be surprised to hear about the realities and trends of drugs and alcohol and how they are affecting our children as early as middle school," said Vineis, who presents the Fatal Vision goggles prevention program in schools across North Jersey. "This is an excellent chance for parents to gain a glimpse into the pressures facing their children and to ask questions of this diverse community panel of experts."
Refreshments will be served at this free community event, which is sponsored by the Pequannock Township Municipal Alliance Committee. No registration is necessary. For more information, please call Maureen Montalbetti at (973) 616-6010.
