Workshop targets mid-winter blues
As the holidays wind down and people face the long months of winter, many will find themselves deeply affected by the mid-winter blues, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.
NewBridge Services, a nonprofit community provider of behavioral health and education programs and services, will team up with Parish Nursing of Pompton Plains to present a free workshop on this timely subject at the Grace Chapel, First Reformed Church in Pomp ton Plains.
The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
"The winter's shorter days and longer nights can negatively impact our energy level and mood," said L. Michele Borden, associate executive director at NewBridge, who will present the workshop. "Additionally, dealing with the end of the holiday festivities and the stresses of residual holiday bills or weight gain, can aggravate these symptoms even further."
Supported by the Pequannock Township Health Department, this free workshop will address the signs and symptoms of the mid- winter blues, and offer information and strategies to help maintain a better energy level and improved outlook. The presentation will be followed by discussion and refreshments, as well as the opportunity to learn more about available community resources.
The First Reformed Church is located at 529 Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pompton Plains. No registration is required. For more information, call (973) 835-1144.
