Pequannock Prep for prom with prevention program

With prom and graduation season rapidly approaching, NewBridge, a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and education services, is once again offering its Fatal Vision goggles program free to schools and organizations. Fatal Vision goggles simulate the sensation of being intoxicated allowing the students to experience the visual impairment that comes with drinking alcohol without actually drinking.

"Especially in the spring, we encourage middle and high schools to register for this free program," said Mary Vineis, prevention services coordinator at NewBridge. "Many teens don't understand how alcohol affects the brain and impairs one's ability to drive, walk or even write. These goggles are a powerful tool for teens to witness the disabling effects of alcohol consumption."

NewBridge also offers Fatal Vision kits free for loan to teachers, police officers, student assistance coordinators, school resource officers, nurses or other leaders of children's groups who wish to educate young people about the effects of drinking alcohol. These kits include goggles, class materials, videos and teaching guides.

For more information on the Fatal Vision goggles program or to receive a copy of NewBridge's prevention program brochure for schools and youth organizations, call Mary Vineis at (973) 839-2521, ext. 228.
