NewBridge honors two dedicated leaders

Two Morris County residents were honored during NewBridge Services' annual summer picnic Aug. 3. At the event, which brings together staff, volunteers, supporters and community members, Doug Cook and the late Jim Ryan, both of Pompton Plains, were presented with the second annual NewBridge Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Doug Cook and Jim Ryan epitomize the essence of this award," said Robert L. Parker, Executive Director, NewBridge.

Ryan was one of the founders of NewBridge, and helped the organization realize its vision of helping people move forward and find balance in their lives. Ryan also gave to his country. A United States Army Veteran, Ryan received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star with Gold Leaf Cluster.

As co-founder of the Annual NewBridge Golf Outing, Cook has helped raised more than $150,000 during the past 10 years to support NewBridge’s children and senior programs. Through his efforts, more than 4,000 children and teens from Morris and Passaic counties attend NewBridge programs on bullying, stress, respect and tolerance, suicide prevention and drug prevention each year.
