Child and Family Services in New Jersey

Child abuse and neglect cause lasting harm that affects both children and their families. NewBridge Services knows that healing requires more than just addressing the immediate crisis — it demands compassionate, specialized care that rebuilds trust and creates lasting change. Our Child and Family Services program provides a safe haven for families involved with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) to overcome trauma and develop skills needed for a healthier future.

Referrals to our Child and Family Services are made through DCPP.  To contact DCPP, call 1(855) 463-6323. Families not involved with DCPP but in need of support can contact our outpatient counseling services through the Access Department at (973) 316-9333 or Services@NewBridge.org.

Since 2012, NewBridge has been entrusted by the DCPP to support children and families involved in the state's child welfare system. Our skilled clinicians use evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help families heal from the effects of neglect and abuse while building stronger, more resilient relationships. Nearly all families who complete an intervention through our Child and Family Services program have their children at home a year after discharge.

Comprehensive Treatment for Lasting Recovery

Our Child and Family Services program takes a holistic approach to healing, recognizing that recovery involves the entire family system. We work with children, parents, guardians and other family members through individual and family therapy sessions designed to address the root causes of trauma while building practical skills for the future. Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to meet each family’s particular needs, ensuring everyone receives the personalized care they deserve.

Sessions are available both in person at our Parsippany and Sparta locations and through virtual visits.

Supporting Families at Every Stage

We work with children of all ages who have experienced trauma, helping them understand that what happened to them was not their fault while teaching them healthy coping strategies. Our bilingual clinicians provide services in English and Spanish.

Parents and guardians also receive specialized support through our program, regardless of circumstances or background. Many factors can contribute to family challenges, including mental health struggles, substance use, financial stress or their own history of trauma. Our nonjudgmental approach focuses on building skills and addressing underlying issues rather than placing blame.

Families’ Path to Healing Starts Here

Families can begin receiving counseling services as soon as they become involved with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and treatment can continue for up to eight months after their case with the child welfare system is closed. Our treatment process is designed to provide comprehensive support throughout the family's journey toward healing:

  • Initial Assessment: Our clinicians conduct thorough evaluations to understand each family's particular situation and develop personalized treatment goals.
  • Individual Therapy: Children work one-on-one with specialized trauma therapists to process their experiences and develop healthy coping skills.
  • Family Therapy: Joint sessions help rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen family relationships in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Parent Support: Guardians learn effective discipline strategies, stress management techniques and how to create emotional safety for their children.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Regular check-ins ensure families continue progressing toward their goals and maintain the positive changes they've achieved.

Our dedicated team remains committed to each family's success, celebrating milestones like the young girl who, after completing trauma-focused treatment, asked her clinician for a hug — a powerful symbol of her journey from fear to trust.
