Legacy of Hope Gala Shines Light on Mental Health

NewBridge Services’ 2025 Legacy of Hope Gala was a resounding success, raising vital funds to support people facing mental illness, addiction, and other challenges — and shining a light on the critical issue of of mental health.

More than 240 guests gathered May 8 at The Legacy Castle in Pompton Plains for an evening of celebration, connection, and support for NewBridge’s mission. Guests heard powerful stories from three NewBridge clients and joined in honoring Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon, who has made treatment of mental illness and addiction a priority.

“I don’t know where I would have been without NewBridge,” a client named Colleen said. Colleen struggled with schizophrenia and addiction for decades, and spent nine months in Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital.

After her discharge, Colleen had no place to go. She moved into a NewBridge group home, where her son could visit her. As her confidence grew, she wanted a place where she could live with him again, and NewBridge helped her secure a two-bedroom apartment.

‘I Don’t Think I’ve Ever Been This Happy”

Colleen credited NewBridge’s dedicated and skilled staff with saving her life, helping her mange mental illness through counseling and effective medications, and supporting her pursuit of sobriety.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy. NewBridge, I love you guys,” she said. Colleen has been free of drugs and alcohol for eight years. She works part-time as a grocery store cashier and regularly cares for her 4-year-old grandson.

“Thank you so much for giving me a place to have a life,” she said. “My grandson’s never seen me drunk or high. I’ve always been there for him — and I would never have been able to do it without you guys. I think you know how grateful I am.”

Colleen’s story moved the audience to donate more than $20,000 on the spot. Visit the NewBridge website to learn more about NewBridge’s transforming programs, and support our efforts at https://fundraise.givesmart.com/f/5a03/n?vid=1kwscr

“NewBridge truly changes lives!” NewBridge CEO Michelle Borden said. “We meet people where they are and walk with them toward healing. We help children, adults, and seniors facing mental health challenges find strength and hope.”

Hope One

Sheriff Gannon reflected on the impact NewBridge and other providers are making and spoke of initiatives his office has undertaken. One such program is Hope One, a mobile outreach unit that brings essential mental health and addiction services directly to people in need .

“Our work has touched countless lives, and we’re not just treating symptoms; we’re fostering a culture of hope, understanding and support,” Gannon said. “As we look to the future, I’m more determined than ever to continue this work and strike for a world where everyone has access to the mental health support they need,” he said.

Guests enjoyed a night of great food and drink, performances by Shamrock School of Music students, danced and bid on items and experiences in the silent auction. Donations to NewBridge Services are gratefully welcomed at https://fundraise.givesmart.com/f/5a03/n?vid=1kwscr
