Together We Can Prevent Suicide

Today marks the start of National Suicide Prevention Month — a reminder that with awareness, connection, and support, suicide is preventable.

While nearly 50,000 people in the U.S. died by suicide in 2023, recent data offer hope: fewer teenagers are reporting suicidal thoughts and attempts, evidence that prevention and support work. [These statistics come from the 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.]

NewBridge Services is part of the national Zero Suicide movement. All staff are trained to recognize warning signs and respond appropriately. NewBridge’s clinicians and educators are committed to walking alongside people struggling with emotional challenges and helping them navigate crises, build coping skills, and reclaim hope. Your donation helps sustain these lifesaving efforts.

Suicide can be prevented when we know the warning signs, reach out with compassion, and connect people to help. Asking directly — “Are you thinking of killing yourself?” — listening without judgment, and sharing the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline can save lives.

Throughout the month, NewBridge will share stories and strategies to help turn the tide. If you or someone you know is in immediate crisis, call or text 988 anytime. If you are feeling overwhelmed by life, contact NewBridge online, or at (973) 316-9333 to schedule counseling and work with a skilled clinician to create a personalized suicide safety plan — a toolkit of strategies for diffusing emotional crises.

None of us has to face this alone when each of us plays a role in prevention.
